Relocating
Relocating with the child...
A judge can grant a court Order allowing a child to be taken to another country for a short time or even longer-term. For example, if a parent or the person with parental responsibility wants to move with the child to a country outside the UK and the other parent does not agree, that other parent can apply for a court Order which gives permission. However, a judge will weigh many factors when making their decision, such as the length of time, existing contact arrangements with the other parent and other personal circumstances.
If the parent with whom the child lives wants to move to another place within Northern Ireland, that parent will not normally need the Court's permission in order to move so long as they stay within Northern Ireland.
However, another parent or person with Parental Responsibility may apply for a Prohibited Steps Order to prevent the move or apply for an Order for Residence which could prevent the first parent from moving with the Child.
